| A
Hill of Beans For Peace
The Imam prayed in the Catholic church for
peace
His black cap on his head showing respect.
Allah the Merciful was called upon in prayer
Surrounded by the stations of the Cross.
Salvation Army Captains, priests and lay
Men and women ordained to serve the Lord
United by the call to prayer that day
Sang fervently against the threat of war.
The symbol of their unity and faith
Was hollow only in the visual aid
An empty box with windows spelling ‘’Peace’’
Placed by the pulpit waiting for the throng.
The
invited queues soon formed to make a vow
To action following on from faithful prayer
And contributed a shovelful of beans
Just beans, ordinary, comical like us
Amounting to the promised strength from God
A hill of beans, a parting cup of tea, and Thou
Hast heard us, will we overcome, some day?
